Two overturned tractor-trailer trucks closed a stretch of the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike for several hours Friday between the Allegheny Valley and Pittsburgh exits.
The roadway is now open.
The crash occurred in the westbound lanes shortly before 4:30 a.m. in Plum and remained closed between Exit 48 and Exit 57 — roughly a 6-mile stretch — as of 9 a.m.
“It’s just a mess,” Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Phillip Matson said.
Neither driver was seriously injured, Cpl. Matson said. One of the tractor trailers was carrying wood products when it overturned, he said. The other was contracted with the United States Postal Service.
“They were heavily entangled and hanging on the center barrier,” he said.
