PennDOT has announced restrictions in the Squirrel Hill Tunnel for this weekend so utility crews can install antenna coaxial cables.

There will be single-lane restrictions from Friday through Sunday according to the following schedule:

▪ Outbound (eastbound) from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday

▪ Inbound (westbound) from 10 p.m. Saturday night to 11:30 a.m. Sunday

Other traffic restrictions in the region:

Liberty Bridge — All four lanes have reopened. Short-term lane restrictions will occur this week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. so crews can pressure wash barriers, apply sealer, and mill and pave a section of the bridge deck. Other short-term lane restrictions will continue during overnight and off-peak daytime hours throughout the rest of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. Single-lane restrictions on the ramp to and from the Boulevard of the Allies and the sidewalk closure for the bridge will remain in place. The entire $80 million reconstruction project will finish in 2018.

PennDOT, the contractor and a team of consultants are still working on the design of a permanent fix for a 30-foot steel chord that was damaged in the Sept. 2 fire. OSHA is investigating the fire, which occurred when a steel-cutting operation near the top of the bridge ignited plastic pipe being stored below.

Route 28 — Overnight lane restrictions in each direction at the East Ohio Street interchange from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Nov. 23. Lane restrictions will only occur in the inbound (southbound) direction Friday through Sunday night, Nov. 18-20. All ramps will remain open.

Second Avenue, South Oakland — In area of Birmingham Bridge, single-lane restrictions in each direction and intermittent stoppages of 10 minutes or less weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Dec. 5.

Ohio River Boulevard/Route 65 — Single-lane restrictions will occur as needed on southbound Route 65 in various locations from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Dec. 31 to allow crews to install signage. After a winter hiatus, more extensive improvement work will occur in the northbound direction in 2017.

Camp Horne Road, Emsworth — Closed for construction work, about a quarter-mile north of the Camp Horne Road and Ohio River Boulevard/Route 65 intersection, through mid-November. Crews are rebuilding a retaining wall. Traffic will be detoured using Mount Nebo Road, Interstate 79 and Ohio River Boulevard.

West Carson Street — Single-lane restrictions in each direction between the Corliss Tunnel and the West End Bridge through Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for tree and brush trimming.

Wildwood Road, Hampton — Wildwood Road has reopened between Roland Road/Trillium Trail and Sylvan Drive. Single-lane closures for work such as guiderail installation and landscaping through November as Joseph B. Fay Co. finishes the $2.6 million project to remediate two landslide areas.

Andy Warhol Bridge — Closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic through November 2017 as part of $25.4 million rehabilitation project. The Rachel Carson Bridge (9th Street) will be used as a detour.

The detour also will reroute about 350 Port Authority buses a day to Carson, according to the Port Authority. The detoured routes will be routes 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17 and the O5. The Carson Bridge is expected to be rehabbed in 2018 and the Clemente Bridge in 2020.

Ewing Road, Collier — Closed between the I-79 overpass and Kellington Drive through early December for slide remediation work. Traffic detoured.

South Park parking restrictions — The parking lot adjacent to the Children’s Playground, at Brownsville Road and Corrigan Drive in South Park will be closed through about Nov. 11. The lot will be repaved. Parking available at South Park Fairgrounds or Nevin Grove.

Nadine Road, Penn Hills — Closed through mid-December for bridge replacement. Detour: Allegheny River Boulevard, Sandy Creek Road, Verona Road and Lincoln Road.

Saxonburg Boulevard, O’Hara — Bridge closed around-the-clock through Nov. 25 for replacement of bridge hat carries Saxonburg over Little Pine Creek between Kay Drive and Fugger Lane. Detour will be posted.

Wabash Tunnel — The HOV temporary waiver has been extended through December to allow vehicles with fewer than two occupants to use the tunnel during peak hours, alleviating possible congestion on other roads caused by the Liberty Bridge rehabilitation project. The Wabash Tunnel, which opened as a commuter tunnel in December 2004, provides a shortcut for motorists from Route 51 to the South Side and Downtown Pittsburgh.

Strip District — Two adjacent portions of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail will be closed while the Buncher Co. cleans up the trail between 11th and 16th Streets, through November. From 18th to 21st streets, the trail will be closed until early next summer while NRP Group works on sanitation pipes for an apartment complex it is building there. Smallman Street is the recommended detour.

East Pennview Street, Shaler — Closed for bridge replacement. Pine Creek Bridge No. 11, about a quarter mile west of the intersection of Pennview and Route 8, through spring 2017.

Route 885/Clairton Road, West Mifflin — Single-lane alternating traffic between College Drive and Ravensburg Boulevard from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Weekend work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. may occur. Flaggers will assist motorists through the work zone.
