Oakmont Borough Councilwoman Carrie Lewis-DelRosso declared victory Tuesday night in her bid to win Allegheny County’s 33rd state House district seat.
The declaration from Ms. Lewis-DelRosso, a Republican, came shortly after incumbent Democratic state Rep. Frank Dermody conceded the race in a statement Tuesday.
“I’m honored and humbled that the people of this district have entrusted me with the job of representing them in the Pennsylvania State House and I promise to bring fresh ideas and new energy to the job,” Ms. Lewis-DelRosso said.
Ms. Lewis-DelRosso was born in Scranton, Pa., but moved to Allegheny County in 1993 to attend the University of Pittsburgh, according to the announcement of victory from her campaign. She has served on the Oakmont Borough Council since 2017.
“Whether they voted for me or my opponent, I want the citizens of District 33 to know that I will be a voice for every citizen of the Allegheny Valley. The next two years pose many challenges. A pandemic has hurt our economy, and government has yet to live within its means. I hope to be a voice for fiscal sanity and commonsense government in the years ahead,” Ms. Lewis-DelRosso said.
Mr. Dermody represented the 33rd district since 1991. He has also served as the Pennsylvania House minority leader since 2011.
In his concession statement, Mr. Dermody said that while he had hoped to represent the district for two more years, he is proud of the work he has accomplished during his tenure.
“I have loved doing this job because I could help our communities and know that we made a difference,” Mr. Dermody said. “There are many issues facing our Commonwealth that will require bipartisan cooperation to address. I wish Ms. DelRosso [sic] the best in representing the 33rd District going forward.”
