Pennsylvania on Tuesday was on the cusp of 900,000 cases of COVID-19, reporting 899,237 total cases in the state to date.
After a holiday weekend pushed back the state Department of Health’s usual daily update, a three-day total of 6,893 new cases was added. There have been 23,126 Pennsylvanians who have died from the virus.
Although daily cases are lower than they were in November and December, the state is still adding over 1,000 cases of the virus every day.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday reported that more than 1.3 million Pennsylvanians have received one shot against COVID-19. The state has received over 2.7 million doses of the serum, which requires two shots to be effective.
The state Department of Health estimates nearly 89,000 people in Allegheny County have been partially covered by one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, the Allegheny County Health Department reported 199 new cases of COVID-19 and added another person to the virus’s death toll.
The decedent was in their 80s and died on Feb. 14.
Of the new cases, 105 are confirmed and 94 are probable positives, the department said. Newly infected people were as young as 1 year and as old as 88 years, with a median age of 40.
The positive tests were generally conducted in the past week, but two of them date back to Feb. 8.
Since March, the county health department has reported 73,598 cases of COVID-19, leading to 4,680 hospitalizations and 1,584 deaths.
Also on Tuesday, the county announced all slots had been filled for appointments at the Castle Shannon COVID-19 vaccination site. The county advised people to monitor availability in case appointments are canceled.
More information about COVID-19 and vaccines can be found on the county’s dashboard and the Pennsylvania Department of Health website.
