A video of a Penn State sociology professor is going viral after it showed him singling out a white man in his class during a discussion about white privilege.
In the clip, which has been viewed almost 170,000 times on Twitter, professor Sam Richards talked about one white student as an “average white guy” that would benefit more from society than any student of color, even if their resumes and educational backgrounds were similar.
The clip was part of a discussion that he has each semester with his students, saying that any white student would have the same advantages.
In a statement to Fox News, Penn State said that Richards “teaches in a manner designed to promote discussion across a spectrum of opinions.”
Penn State professor brings a white student and a black student to the front of the class, and nods along as the former says he "doesn't deserve" to be who he is: "This is the problem with white people; the question then becomes what should we do?"

The university emphasized that his class is a popular elective that teaches hundreds of students each semester. He also discusses opinions from many perspectives during his class.
