The Pittsburgh Public Schools board Wednesday approved the sale of the former Bon Air Elementary School for $55,000.
The district will sell the nearly 15,000 square foot property along Fordyce Street to Gregory Development, one of two companies that offered to buy the school.
Ronald Joseph, the district’s chief financial officer, said last week that both offers to buy the school were for the district’s asking price and included plans for residential redevelopment of the property.
The district accepted the Gregory Development offer because it included maintaining the location as a polling site, garnering support from the community, Mr. Joseph said.
Built in 1955, Bon Air Elementary School was shuttered in 2008 amid widespread district closures. The brick building contains five classrooms and a separate kindergarten area along with administration offices.
The school was one of five properties that the district requested proposals for in 2020. The other properties included Arlington Elementary, Horace Mann Elementary School in Marshall-Shadeland, Belmar Elementary School in Homewood, and a 23-acre land parcel in New Homestead.
The land parcel and all schools except for Arlington Elementary have already been sold.
