The Clairton City School District will release students early Thursday and cancel classes Friday as the school undergoes treatment for bedbugs.
The district said in a letter sent to parents Wednesday that it was contacting an exterminator to treat multiple classrooms and common areas following a “bed bug incident.” The letter did not provide details about the incident.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and consult with public health and pest control professionals to eliminate any remaining bed bugs in the building and to minimize the potential for future bed bug activity in the school, as necessary,” the letter said.
The letter notes that bedbugs are not known to carry disease.
The district said it will release students at 11:30 a.m. Thursday and cancel classes Friday as the building receives treatments.
All after school activities on Thursday and Friday are canceled, save for the football game at Neil G. Brown Stadium scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
