Bethel Park High School will hold active shooter training for students and staff on Thursday.
School police and staff will conduct the drill using ALICE (Alert Lockdown Inform Counter Evacuate) protocol, a widely used program that lays out best practices for responding to an active shooter in a public area.
Part of the training includes the sound of fake gunfire to acclimate students to the sound in case of an emergency, per the program’s recommendation, according to a letter Principal Zeb Jansante sent parents on Wednesday.
Other schools in the area have conducted similar training in recent months.
The drill will take place during an extended period Thursday morning.
