The North Allegheny school board will vote tomorrow to name Robert J. Scherrer as its next superintendent.
Mr. Scherrer has been the acting superintendent, and was the assistant superintendent for K-12 education since 2013.
“North Allegheny has a strong tradition of excellence in academics, arts, athletics and extra-curricular activities,” said Mr. Scherrer. “I am honored and humbled to continue the work at North Allegheny. This is a very special place because of our students, families, educators and the entire school community.”
School board President Tara Fisher said Mr. Scherrer “is an excellent fit” for the district. “He possesses the skills, drive and vision the board was looking for in our next leader. (He) is committed to moving the district forward, and we are excited for him to get started in his new, permanent role.”
Mr. Scherrer has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate in Administrative and Policy Studies from the University of Pittsburgh.
“Education is all about building relationships and helping students find success academically, socially and emotionally,” he said. “I find great joy in helping others create healthy and rigorous learning environments that support students.”
The school board in January hired the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) to conduct the search for a new superintendent after the retirement of Raymond Gualtieri, who had been superintendent for less than five years.
Tomorrow’s board meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Central Administration Office on Hillvue Lane in McCandless.
