Pedestrian killed in apparent East Allegheny hit-and-run early Saturday

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Saturday in East Allegheny. Witnesses told Pittsburgh police that the vehicle fled the scene.

Police responded to the report of a pedestrian-related collision at the intersection of East Ohio and East streets about 2 a.m.

They found a man with severe head injuries lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety release.

He was identified on Sunday as Trung Nguyen, 58, by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office. 

Witnesses told police they saw the man exit a silver pickup truck before he was struck by the same vehicle. The truck then drove away on East Ohio Street before turning left onto Madison Avenue.

Violent Crime Unit detectives were investigating.
