Man shot and killed by Churchill police officer identified

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the man as Gregg Carlson, 48, of Forest Hills

Allegheny County authorities confirmed Monday the identity of a man shot and killed by Churchill police on Thursday night. 

A release from the Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the man as 48-year-old Gregg Carlson, of Forest Hills, who died of his injuries in the hospital hours after the shooting. 

The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of Glasgow Road after county 911 received a call for a “disturbance” in the area, according to Allegheny County police.

Officers on scene “heard a firearm being chambered and a shot fired,” then spotted Carlson outside the home, police said.

A Churchill officer shot Carlson in the torso, police said, and he later died in a hospital at 1:20 a.m. on Friday, according to the medical examiner. 

Allegheny County police are investigating the shooting, according to the release. 

No other information regarding the shooting has been made available as of Monday afternoon.
