1 dead, 2 injured in Downtown Pittsburgh shooting

One man died and two other people were injured in a Downtown shooting Thursday night.

According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, an officer working at Mellon Square Park heard gunshots at about 10:30 p.m. and ran  to Smithfield Street and Strawberry Way.

Upon arrival, the officer said he found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest, a woman with a gunshot wound to the lower extremities, and a man who had been shot in the foot.

The officer performed CPR on the victim with the chest wound until medics arrived, public safety officials said. The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The medical examiner’s office identified him as 23-year-old Lonnie Latham III.

The two other victims were transported to the hospital in stable condition, officials said.

Two men were taken into police headquarters for questioning, police said.
