Pittsburgh Catholic Bishop David Zubik is decrying vandalism of a monument in support of unborn children outside a church in Greenfield.
In a statement, the bishop said someone spray-painted the memorial stone in front of St. Rosalia Church on Greenfield Avenue sometime overnight on Wednesday.
The church is part of St. Paul Cathedral Parish, and the pastor, the Rev. Kris Stubna, “alerted police to the destruction, and has been talking with parishioners who are upset,” the bishop said. He said a nearby pro-life billboard was also vandalized.
Bishop Zubik noted the vandalism occurred just ahead of Friday’s anti-abortion March for Life in Washington, D.C.
“While there are significant differences of opinions in our world on right to life and many others, we should never let those differences lead us to disrespect each other,” the bishop said.
“We have religious freedom and the right to express this important part of our Church teaching: the pro-life cause is about respecting every human being and celebrating their birth, even when they disagree with us. Let us pray for more love and less hate.”
