A man died following an incident Sunday morning in Forest Hills in which police said he fired at officers, who shot back, striking him multiple times.
According to the Allegheny County Police Department, Forest Hills Police officers were dispatched about 10:20 a.m. to the 2300 block of Ardmore Boulevard for reports of a male yelling at people, lifting his shirt and displaying a firearm.
Two Forest Hills officers encountered the man walking in the street on Yost Boulevard near Ardmore Manor Drive, and attempted to speak with him.
The man “produced a handgun and fired the gun at officers,” county police said in a news release.
“The officers returned fire striking the male multiple times,” the news release said.
The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The county medical examiner identified him Monday as Marcus Allen, 38, of Pittsburgh.
The pants of one officer’s police uniform were struck by gunfire, but the officer was not injured.
Forest Hills Police requested assistance of the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit in the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing and all investigative information will be provided to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office for review.
