One man charged with homicide after home invasion leaves another dead

Allegheny County police are charging one man with criminal homicide after a home invasion on Jan. 19 led to one man’s death.

David M. Gutierrez-Faust, 69 of McKeesport was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon as a result of the injuries he sustained during a home invasion, where 30-year old Devin Hale of Monroeville has been identified as one of the suspects.

Officers responded to a call on Tuesday, Jan 19, where the 9-1-1 caller stated that two Black men had invaded a home in the 2900 block of Grover Street in McKeesport. The caller also told the dispatcher that they believed one person had been strangled.

When police arrived, they found Mr. Gutierrez-Faust unresponsive and without a pulse. He was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition, where he died Saturday as a result of his injuries.

One witness told police that they had heard a knocking on the rear door of the residence and when they answered, a firearm was pointed in their face.

The witness identified Mr. Hale as one of the men and said they saw Mr. Hale hit Mr. Gutierrez-Faust in the head and face with a closed fist multiple times and then strangle him, according to the criminal complaint.

The witness also told police that they saw the second suspect — still currently unidentified — reach into Mr. Gutierrez-Faust’s pocket after Mr. Hale had strangled him and take money and crack cocaine.
