SWAT responds to armed standoff in Knoxville

Pittsburgh’s SWAT unit was called to a house in the city’s Knoxville neighborhood overnight after a report of shots fired during a domestic incident, police said.

Just before 1:45 a.m. Friday, officers responded to the 400 block of Alice Street.

A woman and man were safely outside of the house when police arrived. There were no injuries.

SWAT and EMS were called in after a male suspect was believed to be barricaded inside, possibly with a handgun, police said. Police also recovered a weapon from his vehicle.

SWAT operators conducted “verbal hails” while negotiators tried to establish contact with the man over the phone, but were unsuccessful, according to authorities. A K9 unit entered the residence after gas deployment failed to draw the suspect out of the home.

After a sweep of the residence, the suspect was not located inside.

The investigation is ongoing.
