Inmate dies in Allegheny County Jail

An inmate in the Allegheny County Jail died Thursday, according to the warden.

Warden Orlando Harper said the man was found unresponsive in his cell. He said medical staff began life-saving efforts until paramedics arrived.

EMS continued with emergency life-saving efforts until a physician called the time of death at 10:43 a.m.

The incident will be investigated by Allegheny County police and the jail will conduct an internal review, a standard procedure in such incidents, according to the warden. 

The man has not yet been identified by the county medical examiner’s office
