An inmate died at the Allegheny County Jail after he was found hanging in his cell, officials said.
The inmate was discovered in his cell in Pod 2B suspended by his uniform, according to jail Warden Orlando Harper. The inmate was placed on the floor, and corrections officers began life-saving procedures until health care staff and later paramedics arrived to take over. However the inmate could not be revived.
A physician with the EMS unit pronounced the inmate dead at 5:11 p.m.
The inmate’s identity has not yet been released.
Warden Harper said the jail will conduct an internal review and the incident will also be investigated by Allegheny County police.
