Country crooner Sam Hunt was arrested Thursday after driving the wrong way on a Nashville thoroughfare while intoxicated with open beer containers in his car, police said.
The Grammy-nominated singer drove south in the northbound lanes of Ellington Parkway in East Nashville and was seen swerving on local side streets before his arrest, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by the Daily News.
"When officers got behind the vehicle, the driver had difficulty staying in the lane of travel and crossed the center divide several times before a stop was initiated," the paperwork says.
Mr. Hunt, 34, allegedly had two empty beer containers in the car and "bloodshot and watery eyes" when officers made contact, the affidavit states.
"An obvious odor consistent with alcoholic beverage" was detected during the stop, the filing in Davidson County alleges.
Mr. Hunt, who was alone in the car, allegedly showed "numerous signs of impairment" during his sobriety test and registered a blood alcohol level of 0.173 on a breath test.
"The defendant had difficulty retrieving his ID and attempted to give a credit card and passport instead while his (Tennessee) driver licenses sat on his lap," the affidavit states.
Mr. Hunt was booked around 6 a.m. and released a few hours later, jail records show.
He was officially charged with DUI and an open container violation and granted a $2,500 bond, according to online court records.
Attempts to reach a representative for Mr. Hunt were not immediately successful Thursday.
Mr. Hunt's debut album, “Montevallo,” went triple platinum and spawned several hit singles including "House Party" and "Take Your Time."
His song "Body Like A Back Road" topped the Billboard Hot County Songs chart for eight months in 2017.
