A bomb threat has closed Fox Chapel Area High School Thursday, according to district officials.
Officials said the district received information regarding a threat late Wednesday night through the Safe2Say Something reporting system. The threat mentioned Thursday and “was very ambiguous and non-specific, and was related to rumors circulating about a bomb threat,” according to the district.
O’Hara police were called and did a thorough search of the high school, including the use of two bomb-sniffing dogs. Police deemed the school clear and safe, but the district decided to close the school “out of an abundance of caution.”
Students will return tomorrow under a heightened security presence at the high school, administrators said.
“We hope you know that the district takes very seriously the safety and well-being of all our students and staff,” the district said.
The district’s five other schools are in session today. The district said it would be making “additional supports” available to students at the other schools due to “periods of potentially elevated stress” the threat may have on other students.
Safe2Say is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office that allows people to leave anonymous tips about threats of violence against schools.
