A SWAT situation ended peacefully at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Downtown on Sunday afternoon.
Pittsburgh police and SWAT officers responded to the scene around noon when an “emotionally disturbed individual” refused to leave a hotel room.
“The emotionally disturbed person didn’t want to come out,” police Cmdr. Vic Joseph said. “[The person] eventually complied.”
Cmdr. Joseph said no weapons were involved. The person was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. No charges have been filed.
Police spokesperson Chris Togneri would not provide any information on the individual or confirm the hotel room number.
For roughly two hours, a large police presence congregated outside the hotel at 745 Grant St.
At least 14 marked Pittsburgh police vehicles and one ambulance, as well as several unmarked police vehicles, parked along the street and hotel driveway. Cmdr. Joseph said the large response was out of precaution.
Guests standing outside said they had been evacuated.
Hotel employees declined to comment.
The 207-room hotel is located in the renovated Federal Reserve Bank of Pittsburgh, next to the William S. Moorhead Federal Building on Grant Street.
