The new chief of Pittsburgh’s Emergency Medical Services is not new to the bureau.
In fact, he’s been with Pittsburgh EMS for four decades.
Ronald Romano, 62, of Stanton Heights, was sworn in Friday as the city’s EMS chief at a ceremony in City Council chambers.
Chief Romano has been with Pittsburgh EMS since 1978 and was raised in Morningside. He is married with three children and four grandchildren.
The new chief had served as acting chief since former Chief Robert Farrow retired in August.
“It will be my job to bridge the past into the future, but it is not just the leader but the people who make an organization great,” Chief Romano said during the ceremony.
“I am humbled and honored to be the new chief of Pittsburgh EMS, and I thank the mayor and director for this opportunity and the trust they have shown in me to be the EMS chief. I will work to do the best job possible for the citizens of Pittsburgh.”
Other promotions included: Antwain Carter and Russ Dimon to district chiefs; Michael Donnelly, Jenna Heidenreich and Daniel Sprouse to paramedics; and Christopher Blockton, Adam DeLuca and Jason Elias to emergency medical technicians.
