Allegheny County hits record for daily case counts

Allegheny County hit a pandemic-era record for new COVID-19 case counts on Thursday. 

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s COVID-19 dashboard on Friday, the county counted 1,558 new cases on Dec. 23.

This surpasses the county’s previous high, when 1,457 cases were counted on Dec. 10, 2020.

On Thursday, Allegheny County’s health department reported 944 new cases since Wednesday and one additional death, bringing the death total to 2,614 since the start of the pandemic.
