Emergency crews battled a fire at a McKees Rocks apartment building that started early this morning.
The fire was reported at 3:47 a.m. in the 400 block of Alexander Street, according to Allegheny County emergency officials. Firefighters were still at the scene at 6 a.m.
Authorities said there were no injuries.
The six-unit building sustained heavy damage and the roof collapsed.
McKees Rocks fire Chief Nick Radoycis told Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV that a tenant was cooking french fries and fell asleep, sparking the fire.
The Red Cross said 13 adults and nine children have been displaced.
Route 51/Island Avenue was closed for several hours and reopened shortly after 7 a.m.
