Three men were stabbed during a fist fight that escalated into a stabbing in Ambridge this afternoon, Ambridge police Chief James Mann said.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Maplewood Avenue. About 6 to 9 men were involved.
Two men were taken by ambulance to area hospitals; the third man refused treatment at the scene and was later taken to a hospital by a private vehicle, the chief said.
He did not know their conditions but said one appeared to have a puncture wound.
It was not clear what prompted the fight that led to the stabbing.
The chief said one man is in custody and police are searching for the suspect who stabbed the men. Only one knife was involved.
Mark Flanagan, 50, who lives nearby said he was outside with his dog when he saw a man running down the street, shirtless and screaming, before he ran toward Merchant Street. He also saw another man holding onto his side with blood on his shirt.
"He was walking and talking so I guess he was OK," he said of the injured man.
He and other neighbors described the family who lives in the home where the stabbing was reported as "really nice."
Chief Mann said the shirtless man was caught at Moe's Market on Duss Avenue.
