Washington County officer reported missing last week found dead in South Side

The top officer of a Washington County police department who went missing last week was found dead Tuesday on the South Side, authorities said.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that 47-year-old Mark Hall of Pittsburgh was discovered unresponsive inside his own vehicle at the Hot Metal parking garage in the 2800 block of Sidney Street.

Mr. Hall was reported missing on Thursday, and Pittsburgh police said he was last seen on Jan. 23 in the city’s West End neighborhood.

Mr. Hall was the officer in charge of the Houston police department, a voluntary position.

Houston Borough Council President Larry Scears described the officer-in-charge position as a police chief without the title. He said that all officers at the Houston police department are part time. Mr. Scears said Mr. Hall was a UPMC employee and worked in the information technology department at one of the hospitals.

Houston Mayor Jim Stubenbordt said his offices were notified late Tuesday night of Mr. Hall’s death.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet released a cause and manner for the death.
