Peters Township Council has unanimously accepted a $2 million grant from the state to be used toward construction of an aquatic center at Rolling Hills Park.
State Rep. Natalie Mihalek, R-Peters, was on hand at the Dec. 20 council meeting and presented the township with a $2 million check from the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.
Ms. Mihalek said the aquatic center has been “overwhelmingly supported by the residents.”
Township Manager Paul Lauer thanked her for her work on helping to secure the grant.
“It takes your representative advocating for the township,” to get such a grant, he said.
At a previous meeting, Mr. Lauer said the $2 million grant is, by far, the largest grant the township has ever received. He added at that meeting that if council accepted the grant, it is effectively saying the aquatic center is moving forward.
In other business, council unanimously approved a salary increase for the township manager.
In 2022, Mr. Lauer’s salary will be $132,375. His 2021 salary is $129,463.
