Fire damages 2 vacant houses in Homestead, believed suspicious

Authorities say an overnight fire that heavily damaged two vacant houses in Homestead is being treated as a suspicious blaze.

The fire was reported shortly before 3:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Joseph Street, according to Allegheny County emergency officials.

The county fire marshal was expected at the scene to investigate the cause.

The fire started in one of the structures and quickly spread to a house next door, Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV reported. Nine fire departments responded to the scene. Fire officials told KDKA that the fire is considered suspicious at this time.
