Two young men — ages 17 and 20 — were shot in McKeesport Tuesday night less than a mile from where city police and council members were at a National Night Out event, authorities said.
The victims were found around 7:30 p.m. lying on the front lawns of two houses on Hartman Street, according to McKeesport police. Their injuries are not expected to be life-threatening. Police told Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV the victims were 17 and 20 years old.
The shooting began at the intersection of Washington Street and Hewitt Avenue, police said. The young men ran to Hartman Avenue where they collapsed on front lawns in the 1100 block of Hartman, not far from McKeesport High School and Founders Middle School.
There were about 18 shell casings of at least two different calibers found at the crime scene, police said.
“On Hartman Street, [a shooting is] a little surprising because it has heavy traffic, but for McKeesport it’s started to become day-to-day news,” said Amanda Dixon, who has lived in the neighborhood for 20 years and was walking home from the gym after the shooting occurred.
