Mt. Lebanon pool patting ends with jail for Chinese national

A Chinese national is in the Allegheny County Jail this afternoon on charges that he inappropriately patted two children on the buttocks while they were swimming in a Mt. Lebanon pool.

Police on Thursday charged Ruijia Wang, 58, with two counts of indecent assault after multiple people at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center said Mr. Wang patted a 13-year-old boy once on the buttocks while the boy was hanging onto the edge of the pool and once while the boy was trying to get out of it.

An 8-year-old girl also told police Mr. Wang patted her on the buttocks while she was swimming.

Police drove to the pool about 4:30 p.m. Thursday for a report that a man in a black Speedo was "causing a disturbance" by inappropriately touching children, Mt. Lebanon officer Thomas Sanders wrote in a criminal complaint.

Mr. Wang was arraigned about noon today. His bail was set at $100,000, according to court records.

Lt. Aaron Lauth, a spokesman for the Mt. Lebanon police department, said Mr. Wang was in town visiting relatives when he was arrested. None of the victims were relatives and none were injured, the lieutenant said.

Mr. Wang does not speak English, Lt. Lauth said, and officers used a translation service obtained by Allegheny County dispatchers to communicate with him.
