The National Weather Service on Thursday evening issued a flood warning for much of southwestern Pennsylvania as heavy rainstorms pounded the area.
Widespread flooding and high winds were reported throughout the region.
The flood warning was set to last until 1:15 a.m. as up to two inches of rain was expected in parts of Allegheny, Beaver, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
The weather service advised residents and motorists to be especially cautious at night when danger from flooding is harder to recognize.
The storms caused a variety of issues:
- A landslide closed Bunola River Road in Forward between Raccoon Run and Pangburn Hollow roads.
- A landslide closed Bower Hill Road in Bridgeville between Union Street and McLaughlin Run Road.
- Flooding on Washington Boulevard in Highland Park that forced authorities to lower the flood gates.
- Damage from heavy winds and a possible tornado in Uniontown.
The weather service said it was aware of extensive storm damage in Uniontown and said it would investigate further on Friday.
Fayette County Emergency Management said it received numerous reports of trees and wires down.
