WASHINGTON – Scott W. Brady is one step closer to being U.S. attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
His nomination cleared the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on a unanimous voice vote Thursday morning.
He would replace acting U.S. attorney Soo C. Song, who was temporarily promoted from assistant U.S. attorney a year ago after the resignation of Barack Obama appointee David Hickton.
Western Pennsylvanians can expect a tougher stance on immigration cases and recreational drug use under a Trump appointee, said Carl Tobias, a law professor at the University of Richmond who tracks Judiciary Committee votes. He also expects tougher sentencing recommendations.
Mr. Brady, of Ohio Township, is head of litigation for Federated Investors, Inc., and an adjunct instructor at the University of Pittsburgh’s law school. He previously was an assistant U.S. attorney and an associate for Jones Day LLP and Reed Smith LLP.
“He has worked for two really respected law firms and has had a lot of both civil and criminal practice experience,” Mr. Tobias said.
It wasn’t immediately clear when the full Senate would vote on his confirmation.
