Slippery Rock University professor dies in accident

A Slippery Rock University professor emeritus died after falling through the glass door of a sandwich shop at about noon Monday.

Glen Brunken, 69, of Slippery Rock is believed to have tripped before plummeting head-first through the glass door at Bob's Sub & Sandwich Shop on South Main Street in Slippery Rock, according to the Allegheny County medical examiner's office.

Mr. Brunken was initially taken to Grove City Medical Center before being flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner's office said the death was caused by a severe neck injury sustained in the accident.

From 1969 to 2009, Mr. Brunken taught art at Slippery Rock. Before his 40-year career at the university, he received a master of fine art degree from Wichita State University and a bachelor of fine art degree from Kansas City Art Institute, said Karl Schwab, a Slippery Rock University spokesman.
