Officials in the Quaker Valley School District say they "have employed targeted safety measures and precautions" after a "rumored potential incident involving a high school student" surfaced over the weekend.
School officials wrote in a letter sent home to parents today that they had "received several communications from our parents and students regarding the potential for a dangerous situation to occur in our high school," though they did not elaborate.
"Nothing was substantiated," district spokeswoman Martha Smith said. "We'd like to be completely transparent, but we don't want to perpetuate rumors."
The letter said that school staff were working with police to "investigate any and all potential claims for school violence, and if required, swift actions will be taken. . . .
"We suspect that much of the information that has been discussed in the public domain is in relation to matters of school discipline and events that have occurred in the community over the last week to ten days," the letter said. "Those matters have already been addressed and are being brought to resolution. Over the past 24-hour period, we have not received any communication of a credible threat of any kind. There have been communications via social networking sites discussing the potential for an event to occur -- all of those communications appear to have been rumor and conjecture."
