In adopting a 2005 budget last Wednesday, council instituted a $52-per-person emergency and municipal service tax to replace the $10 occupational privilege tax, which is levied on those who work in the township.
Council, in turn, reduced the property tax rate from 2.15 mills to 2 mills.
The $10.4 million budget for 2005 represents an increase of 6 percent over the current $9.8 million.
Manager Chris Lochner said that higher revenues are expected from fees for the new community center, which is set to open in the spring, and additional collection of earned income tax.
