A McKees Rocks man who was recently released from prison was shot in the back and killed Friday night while partying with friends in Elmore Square in the Hill District.
Troy White, 32, was sitting on a bench in a courtyard between apartment buildings when a man came up behind him and fired multiple shots into his back about 11:10 p.m. The man then turned and ran.
About 20 people were nearby when the shooting occurred but no one else was injured and few witnesses have come forward, police said.
Mr. White was released from prison about three weeks ago after serving time for aggravated assault and gun charges from 2006, according to Lt. Dan Herrmann of the Pittsburgh Police Major Crimes unit and to court records.
As a 17-year-old, Mr. White was charged with shooting a man in a car-jacking attempt in the parking lot of Ross Park Mall.
This is the third fatal shooting to occur in or near Elmore Square this year.
Sean Robinson, 32, was shot after an argument escalated in an apartment Jan. 6.
Five days later, Paris Tatum, 18, was shot at the intersection of Elmore and Rose streets, near Elmore Square.
