A small fire broke out on the roof of PNC Park during Saturday’s postgame fireworks show, but a fast-acting technician doused it before it caused much damage or endangered any fans.
The Pirates said in a statement to Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV that it appeared one of the fireworks being launched from the roof caught fire.
“One of the technicians on the roof took quick action to stamp out the flame with his shirt in the few seconds that it took to get a fire extinguisher to fully put out the small flame,” the statement said. “At no point in time were the fans nor employees in danger. We work with the fire marshal to ensure our shows are safe for fans to enjoy."
Ed Nuttall of Castle Shannon captured the incident from his boat on the Allegheny River.
"It was done, everything was all done, just kind of waiting for boats to move so we could leave," Mr. Nuttall told KDKA-TV. "The next thing you know, we see a guy running across the roof.”

Mr. Nuttall captured the man using a T-shirt to put the fire out.
"The first thought is that T-shirt's not going to be enough to put a fire out,” he told KDKA-TV.
There is one more fireworks night scheduled this season on Sept. 30 after the Pirates play the Miami Marlins.
