More than 4,100 participants came out Sunday on an unusually warm fall day for the 10th annual EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler, with a teacher from Oakland Catholic scoring a repeat win as the women’s champion and a runner from Eastern Pennsylvania winning the men’s race.
Elaina Tabb, of Pittsburgh, crossed the finish line with a time of 55:49 — beating last year’s time by nearly a minute — and Dylan Gearinger, from Dunmore, Pa., won with a time of 49:02, according to the official race results announcement.
Mr. Gearinger told race representatives that the course was tougher than he expected. “There were more hills than I expected and a lot of bridges, but the city is beautiful. I’ll definitely be back. I’m going to celebrate by getting some pierogies.”
Runners from 28 states and six countries participated, according to the race website.
In the women’s race, Sarah Jackson, from Austin, Texas, finished second in 59:48, and Margo Malone, from Pittsburgh, came in third with a time of 1:00:19. Second place in the men’s race went to Alejandro Ambrosio, from Boulder, Colo., with a time of 50:07, and third went to Nicholas Wolk of Pittsburgh, who finished with a time of 50:53.
The 10-mile race started early Sunday on West Carson Street near Station Square. The race continued through the West End, North Side, Strip District and Downtown. That race and a 10K race that used part of the same route finished in Downtown in front of EQT Plaza, on the corner of 7Seventh Street and Liberty Avenue.
