Traffic is moving freely again on Interstate 376 hours after after a tractor trailer overturned on the highway during Tuesday morning’s rush hour.
The truck flipped shortly before 5 a.m. near the Edgewood/Swissvale exit westbound, shutting down the highway to the Wilkinsburg exit (Exit 78B) until around 8:45 a.m., according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Crews were still clearing the accident.
A westbound lane was reopened to allow traffic to get by, but that lane required intermittent shutdowns while crews remove debris from the site.
Traffic in the Parkway East’s eastbound (outbound) lanes went down to one lane to accommodate first responders but remained open to slightly slowed traffic.
Video from Post-Gazette news partner KDKA-TV showed the truck flipped over and blocking both inbound lanes.
KDKA reported that the driver of the truck was able to get out on his own. It’s unclear if he or anyone else was injured.
The roadway was completely reopened sometime around 12:45 p.m.
