A Pittsburgh police commander is leaving the department to become police chief in Frederick, Md., a public safety spokesman confirmed Friday.
Cmdr. Jason Lando joined the city police department since 2006 and was the Zone 5 commander from late 2014 to 2019, according to his LinkedIn page. He most recently was the commander of the city’s Narcotics and Vice Division.
“As with anyone leaving [Pittsburgh Police] for other opportunities, we wish him well and thank him for his service to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and the City of Pittsburgh,” Chief Scott Schubert said in a statement on Twitter.
“Through my interactions, research, and engagement with those who know Jason Lando, it is clear he is a collaborative, transformational, and community-minded leader,” Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor said in a statement.
“His commitment to procedural justice, officer training, officer well-being, work with community programs, including co-responder efforts and youth engagement priorities, are just a few of the reasons why I am confident Jason Lando will be an excellent addition to our already high-performing police department.”
Mr. O’Conner said Mr. Lando will begin his duties in Frederick on March 8.
