After more than three years of bargaining, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Pittsburgh Newspaper Guild, the union representing newsroom employees, have reached an impasse in contract negotiations. As a result, the newspaper has implemented certain portions of its final contract offer to the Guild.
Included in the new contract offer are wage increases totaling 8% over three years. Eligible bargaining unit employees will now participate in the company’s insurance plans and will share in the costs of those plans as is normal with nearly every other company and organization.
Three other unions representing Pittsburgh Post-Gazette employees have already ratified contracts that included wage increases, and two of the unions are now participating in the Company’s insurance program and are sharing in the costs.
The Post-Gazette has been the leading source for news and commentary for Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania for 234 years, predating the U.S. Constitution.
The newspaper has won many regional, state and national awards, including the Pulitzer Prize in 2019 and Pennsylvania newspaper of the year in 2020.
