A worker was injured Tuesday evening in Bloomfield when a utility pole fell on his bucket truck, according to a Pittsburgh police spokeswoman.
Authorities responded around 4:30 p.m. at Liberty Avenue and South Mathilda Street, where a Duquesne Light contractor was found with minor injuries to his rib cage, police said. He was taken to West Penn Hospital in stable condition.
Officials said he was “quite fortunate” to have only sustained the minor injuries.
A pretty scary situation in Bloomfield tonight. A utility worker was taken to the hospital after a pole fell onto a bucket truck. A picture shows the worker dangling from the arm of the truck. https://t.co/uC2h6FZtU5

A wooden utility pole snapped and collapsed onto the man’s bucket, causing the carrier itself to break in half. He was left dangling from the arm of the truck, but was protected by a harness he wore, police said. A coworker in a separate bucket truck rescued him.
Live wires at the scene forced the closure of South Mathilda Street from Liberty to Friendship avenues. Duquesne Light assessed the damage.
