A constable got a day's worth of exercise when he tried to serve a warrant yesterday and instead ended up in a foot chase through Downtown.
Constable Joseph Faloshey Sr. tried serve a warrant on Anthony Devon Woods, 29, who managed to evade capture when he ducked into a public parking garage at Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Stanwix Street.
Mr. Woods was wanted on a charge of direct criminal contempt. Mr. Faloshey said Mr. Woods frequents the Sheraden neighborhood and that police were looking for him.
Mr. Woods was eating breakfast at Elliott's Off Broadway Deli on the ground floor of 11 Stanwix St., where he is a regular customer, when the constable attempted to serve the warrant.
"He recognized me from our previous dealings," said Mr. Faloshey. "He was halfway up the escalator by the time we made it into the building."
The chase led through Gateway Center on Liberty Avenue to the garage where Mr. Woods finally evaded capture.
"The important thing is that he is known to carry a gun," said Mr. Faloshey, adding that Mr. Woods pulled a gun on him during their last encounter.
Mr. Woods is a bearded black male about 5 feet 2 inches tall weighing approximately 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a hooded jacket with fur lining, jeans and a do-rag. Mr. Faloshey said he believes Mr. Woods is trying to leave town on a Greyhound bus destined for somewhere in the Carolinas.
