The Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair is celebrating three decades of engaging the community and creating events, grants and opportunities for people in the South Hills municipality to support each other.
The party was held Friday at St. Clair Country Club. Event chairs Lauren and Gordon Mathews were delighted with the turnout of more than 150 guests.
“For me this is very personal because my grandmother, Aleen Mathews, was one of the original trustees,” said Mr. Mathews. “Being able to carry on her legacy and celebrate 30 years and over $1 million in grants given away to Upper St. Clair residents and their children makes us excited for the next 30 years.”
“We wanted to reach a new group of people with this event,” his wife explained. “We want people who don’t know about us to become familiar with the foundation and raise awareness.”
Casino games, music by No Bad JuJu, food stations and an extensive auction kept guests circulating and mingling throughout the evening.
“We are honoring foundation founder Linda Serene for her leadership and former high school band director James Bennett for helping to bring many cultural events to Upper St. Clair,” said Donna Fox, business manager for the foundation
“Linda did a fabulous job and I am delighted with have these 30 years to look back on and celebrate,” said her friend and founding board member Charlotte McDaniel.
Representing one of the sponsors, Louis Anthony Jewelers, were Geeg Guarino with his wife, Laura and his sisters, Vanessa and Amie, with her husband, Tim Pitschke.
Others enjoying catching up with neighbors were founding board member Angela Petersen, school district superintendent John Rozzo, district director of curriculum and professional development Judith Bulazo, Ryan Scureman Timothy Wagner, Barbara Bolas with her daughter, Jennie, Justin Schmidt, Cara Hesse, Bruce Nelson, Daniel Bellay, Meagan Junstrom, Navin Parmar, Terry Kish, Melissa Randolph, Shannon and Dan Wolfgang, Adina Schiffman, Carla Higgins, Terry Abbott, Kristen and Josh McIntyre and Mary DeRubeis.
