Elliot Walker, the winner of the second season of “Blown Away” on Netflix, demonstrated his glassmaking craftsmanship as he worked on a piece surrounded by 100 guests during a private open house Saturday at the Pittsburgh Glass Center.

“We are so thrilled to finally have Elliot Walker here because we have been waiting for over two years,” said director Heather McElwee.  She was also a judge on the TV show.

Perhaps it was the pressure or just the nature of glass art, but just as Walker was nearly finished with the skeletal vertebrae form, it fell off the end of the pipe and shattered on the floor. The room was silent. “It was heartbreaking,” said marketing director Paige Ilkhanipour.

Despite the mishap, guests had a great time exploring the gallery, mingling and drinking from glasses blown at the glass center.
