24th annual PIZZAZZ

24th annual PIZZAZZ

When and where: Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Fox Chapel Golf Club.

#AllThatPIZZAZZ: The holiday season (un)officially kicked off with PIZZAZZ, a great way to jump start your shopping and for a worthy cause! The shopping extravaganza celebrated 24 years with new vendors and silent auction items to raise funds for the Garden Club of Allegheny County. As guests shopped ’til they dropped, they refueled with hors d’oeuvres from Fox Chapel Golf Club’s executive chef Chris Brown. Guests could grab a glass of wine as they entered the party or could visit the bar to try the signature cocktail — an appletini to celebrate the change in fall colors. The silent auction items included a week in Sun Valley, two weekends in the Laurel Highlands, a week of sailing in the British Virgin Islands, hydrangea paniculata ‘Pinky Winky’ and a chef’s dinner for eight in your home. The event raised $100,000. PIZZAZZ has raised more than $1.3 million since its inception.

#HugATree: PIZZAZZ was launched in 1995 as a fundraiser for “Botany in Action,” an initiative of The Garden Club of Allegheny County to support environmental field research. It was first held in the home of a club member. Its instant success demanded a larger location, and PIZZAZZ eventually moved to the Fox Chapel Golf Club, its home for the past 19 years. PIZZAZZ remains the primary funding source for GCAC, and its proceeds fund a variety of grants awarded each year to conservation, environmental and horticultural projects in our community. The grant recipients from last year’s proceeds are Allegheny Cleanways, Allegheny Land Trust, Aububon Society of Western Pennsylvania, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Homegrown Program, Pittsburgh Conservation Corps — Landforce and Women for a Healthy Environment.
