Birthday party for Billy Strayhorn

The 11th annual Suite Life: Billy Strayhorn Birthday Bash to benefit the Kelly Strayhorn Theater Legacy Fund was held Saturday night. More than 50 attended the VIP reception at Hotel Indigo in East Liberty before joining with another 100 guests at KST for a concert by Pittsburgh’s legendary drummer Roger Humphries and the RH Factor. Saxophonist Tony Campbell entertained during the reception where guests mingled and dined on a hearty buffet. KST executive director Janera Solomon welcomed everyone once they made their way to the theater, and Mr. Humphries answered a few questions about his career and Billy Stayhorn, who would be 103 this year. He learned about Billy Strayhorn’s history from his musician uncles. “He was just so talented writing the music he did starting at 16,” said Mr. Humphries, who started playing himself at age 3½.

#SEEN: Regina Humphries (wife of Roger Humphries), Cecilia Griffin Golden, Francine Abraham, Dred Perky Scott, Anne Billet Lackner, John Cunningham, Janine Pearson, Christina Wilds, Harris Ferris, Teri Belland, Tereneh Idia, Desiree Lee and Susan Delaney.
