UnWINEd event — A toast to hope for a cure

#Grapeful: Nearly 300 guests “UnWINEd” at Narcisi Winery in West Deer, Tuesday night. The benefit was presented by the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, Cancer and Blood Disorders Auxiliary. Tiffany Casarcia and Debbie DePew chaired the party that featured live music by Jamie Wright, a silent auction, raffle and, of course, a variety of wines for sipping and socializing. The program was co-emceed by Paul Alexander and Shelley Duffy with guest speaker Noelle Conover.

#Heartfelt: “My husband and I wear four hats, we are donors to the hospital and we are a family of the hospital,” she said. “Our son, Matthew, passed away over 15 years ago from non-Hodgkin lymphoma so we are very familiar with the hospital,” she said. She and her husband, Dave, are strong supporters of the hospital.

“A lot of the projects need donor support. We can’t do it without them,” she said. She is also the coordinator of the survivorship program at Children’s. “Over 80 percent of the kids are surviving pediatric cancer, and it is very important that we take care of our survivors,” she insisted. As a transition program, survivorship helps to educate the children about the kinds of things they should be aware of. “We want to keep them healthy so they live full lives, “ added Mrs. Conover. A buffet dinner and hors’ doeuvres rounded out the evening in the vineyard.
