Reed Smith Celebrates 140 Years with festive cocktail party

When and where: Thursday night at Reed Smith Centre, Downtown.

#BriefHistory: Started in 1877, Reed Smith grew from just a few lawyers working together to the global powerhouse it is today. Walking into the space, you can feel the commanding presence with wall-to-ceiling windows that showcase the beautiful Pittsburgh skyline.

What people are saying: “We’ve got another 140 years ahead,” said Sandy Thomas, global managing partner. “Pittsburgh is where we got our start, and clients like Heinz, Mellon, and U.S. Steel solidified us in this community. We are proud to still count them as clients today.” And why become a lawyer? “I have the luxury of working with my mind. All the intellectual challenges that come with working with people makes this exciting.” Added Debra Dermody, who has worked for the company for the past 30 years as an antitrust lawyer: “I chose very carefully the quality of people and the quality of work. That’s never changed, so I never left.” Cheers to the next 140!
