Summer Safari raises funds for the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Time and place: Friday night at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in Highland Park.

#Let’sMonkeyAround: It isn’t a zoo party without the following: Ladies in animal print, a selfie station with a boa constrictor, and board member Sally Wiggin chatting with guests about the importance of wildlife conservation. “I just came back from a trip to Rwanda to see the mountain gorillas,” she said while posing for photos with a beautiful macaw named Majik. She grabbed her phone to show me the pictures. “This was my fifth trip to Africa and it was amazing to see herds of elephants (her favorite) and the amazing gorillas. Our zoo has been such an advocate for animals like these, and supporting the efforts that they put forth is something I truly believe in.” More than 1,500 people shared in that belief, helping to raise more than $200,000 for the zoo’s educational and conservation efforts. “The zoo is such a treasure in the city, and every dollar raised tonight goes right toward improving this wonderful place for everyone to enjoy,” said event co-chair Anita Moran (who has been chairing the event for 13 years). She attended with event co-chair Joe Moran, who shared her enthusiasm for the work being done.

#SEEN: Harris Ferris, Rennick Remley, Corey Taglianetti with brother Patrick, Johno and Maria Prascak, Dina Clark, Jennifer Marino with daughter Taylor and Bob Buzzelli.
